About the Artist Behind BrighterMelon

John Montgomery is the passion and skill behind the detailed fruit sculptures of BrighterMelon.
Being laid off in 2009 from General Motors, he found himself working towards a culinary degree, and preparing food at local country club. Ulitmately this is where his excitment for fruit carving began.
In the spring of 2011 he started BrighterMelon. His melon displays began to get bigger, and more creative, and he started desigining and making his own stands. He began attending local fesitvals to show off his talent of carving. At one of his first festivals he won a people's choice, "best show booth" award. He also started competing in pro-divison fruit carving competitions. It was in Ohio where he won his first, first place award.
As time goes on John continues to come up with new inventive fruit carvings and displays that set him apart from other carvers. He hopes to continue competing and attending local festivals to show off his work.
John is being noticed all around the Metro Detroit area,he was asked to do some pumpkins by the Detroit Tigers for the World Series in 2012. Furthermore,John is steadily adding to his resume, just recently he had the pleasure of being part of a competition based television show featured on Food Network named SugarDome.
